SAI was incorporated in 2006. Its founder, Cory Heyman, Ph.D., had previously worked for fifteen years at the nexus of public, private, and non-profit sectors. He served as a professional staff member in the United States Senate; executive director of a DC-based educational non-profit organization; and principal research scientist who managed large-scale international educational development projects. He has implemented projects in the United States, Latin America, Eastern Europe, South Asia, and southern Africa; and has worked as a technical advisor for a range of educational interventions in policy analysis, program evaluation, and applied research using econometric, psychometric, ethnographic research methods. Dr. Heyman earned his undergraduate and masters of public policy at the University of California, Berkeley and his Ph.D. in sociology at Johns Hopkins University. He is the author of more than 20 academic and professional publications and has working knowledge of Spanish and Danish as well as rudimentary Hindi.
